If you’ve spent even one summer in Florida, you already know… it’s not just hot, it’s humid, unpredictable, and somehow still requires a cute outfit.
We’ve learned (the hard way) that what works everywhere else doesn’t always work here. So when we’re getting dressed this time of year, we keep it simple and we keep it realistic. Here’s how we do summer dressing, the Twisted Sisters way:
1. If It’s Not Breathable, It’s a No
This is rule number one. When it’s 90° and you’re going from the car → outside → inside → back outside again, fabric matters a lot.
What we reach for:
- Lightweight cotton
- Linen (even if it wrinkles… we’ve made peace with it)
- Flowy, loose silhouettes
What we skip:
- Anything tight, stiff, or clingy
- Pieces you have to “adjust” all day
If you’re thinking about it too much, you won’t wear it. Simple as that.
2. Dresses Are the Easiest Yes
When in doubt, it’s always a dress. It’s one piece, no effort, and somehow always looks like you tried more than you did.
The ones we grab on repeat:
- Throw-on-and-go minis
- Easy midi dresses you can wear anywhere
- Flowy maxis for days you want a little drama (without the work)
They take you from errands → lunch → last-minute plans without needing a full outfit change.
3. Plan for “Beach to Dinner” Days
Even if you don’t start at the beach… your day might end at dinner. Florida plans have a way of changing quickly, so we always dress for both.
Our go-to formula:
- A lightweight dress
- Sandals you can walk in
- Jewelry you don’t have to think about
That’s it. You’re covered for whatever the day turns into.
4. Effortless Always Wins
Summer is not the time for complicated outfits.
The pieces we wear most are the ones that:
- Don’t wrinkle easily (or at least don’t show it)
- Move with you
- Feel good the second you put them on
If it only works in a mirror but not in real life, it’s not making it into rotation.
5. Have a Go-To “Summer Night” Dress
Evenings in Florida are still warm, but they feel different. They are a bit slower, softer, a little more put together.
We always keep one or two dresses on hand for:
- Dinner plans
- Sunset walks
- Last-minute “do you want to grab a drink?” texts
Think:
- Slightly elevated, but still easy
- Something you don’t have to over-style
6. Build Your Summer Uniform
The goal isn’t to have more, instead it’s to have the right pieces.
A few dresses you love will carry you through most of the season:
- One you can throw on without thinking
- One that works for day and night
- One that feels a little special
Once you have those, getting dressed gets a whole lot easier.
From Us to You
Florida summers aren’t about perfectly styled outfits. They’re about feeling comfortable, pulled together, and ready for whatever the day turns into. If you’re building your summer lineup, start with pieces that feel easy the second you put them on. Those are the ones you’ll wear again and again.
