This Mother’s Day we pay tribute to all of our moms, those we still have in our lives, and those who are no longer with us, yet watch over us from heaven. We celebrate them for their love, guidance, and inspiration in helping us to become who we are today.

This Mother’s Day is bittersweet for me as it is the first one without my sweet mom. I have joined the “club” of daughters who now have the sweet memories of their mom without their physical presence.

Starting Twisted Sisters! 22 years ago was a big dream of mine, and behind me every step of the way was my mom! She believed I could do it, she demanded I try. She always had such a sense of fashion, always impeccably dressed, make-up applied, and hair perfectly coiffed! I loved that people always admired my mom, complimenting her for her beauty all the way into her late 80’s. Her biggest advice: “always apply lipstick”!! Everything I know about fashion, how to choose clothes at market, how to coordinate colors, how to interact with customers and how to believe in myself I owe to my sweet mom.

Mom loved being at the shop, she was our biggest advertiser, telling all who would listen to “shop at Twisted Sisters” and saying with such pride “my daughter is the owner”. Over the years she has done all the things for us at Twisted Sisters! including hemming dressing room curtains, tweaking displays, making goodies for open houses, greeting customers at the counter, attending our fashion shows, and even traveling with me to market to purchase inventory. As she got older, pricing jewelry for us became her specialty. She loved it all, and while I will miss everything about my sweet mama, having her pop in the shop to say “what can I do to help” is one of the things I will miss the most.
