Twenty-two years ago, we opened our doors with a simple idea: shopping should feel fun. Since 2007, that idea has lived right here in downtown Fernandina Beach, Florida.
That idea hasn't changed since. What started as a small boutique has grown into more than 6,000 square feet of clothing, accessories, home décor, gifts, and the kind of one-of-a-kind treasures you won't find anywhere else on the island. But honestly, the size of the place was never really the point for us. The feeling was.
How We Got Started
Twisted Sisters was opened in 2004 by our founder, Kim Holwell, who dreamed of bringing a lively, market-style boutique to life. We got our start in Georgia before making the move to Amelia Island in 2007, settling into downtown Fernandina Beach, where we've called home ever since.
From the beginning, Kim wanted this to feel less like a store and more like stepping into someone's home. A place where you could take your time, laugh a little, and leave with more than just a bag.
Over the years, that vision earned us a nickname around town: the Fun Shop. It means a lot to us that locals and visitors alike make a point to stop in whenever they're downtown, whether they're hunting for the perfect outfit, a last-minute gift, or just want to see what's new on our shelves this week.
Still a Family Business
Twenty-two years in, we're still very much a family affair. Kim's daughter, Taylor, joined us after finishing college, having grown up around the shop long before she ever worked behind the counter. Now she's helping us carry that same spirit forward into the next chapter.
And no story about us would be complete without mentioning Sister Girl, our shop cat, who Kim will happily tell you is the one actually running the place.
